October 9th

I’ve learned a new meaning to “flea bitten” I’m covered! I’m scratching with my feet and my hands. If you see any dog with this problem, really, have more compassion. If any of you know where I can buy a flea necklace, let me know.

We’re working today on the restaurant. The ladies have bought all the necessary items and they are working on calculating all expenses. I love teaching entrepreneurship and the empowerment it brings for women. It’s even more challenging to make sure all the women can write numbers and count.

I’ve been spending most of my days in the office. Doing exciting things like working on quarterly reports, budget watching, etc….

This morning I met my friend, Anna, at the Hilton Hotel for breakfast. I realized on the way that just the cost for the taxi trip is more than many people earn in two months. One of the ladies in our program worked as a house maid 24/7 . She earned less than two dollars per month. I think you really have to shut off some of this pain to survive here.

Another of my friends, Martha, told me that by the DNA for Ethiopians, they should be naturally tall and a bit big. Here I (5’2″) TOWER over most. It’s so hard to imagine this is from lack of food. Again how unfair!!!!!

Our hope is that you and I can make a difference. How can we know unless we try?
