September 20
I was walking along, up a rocky hill, moving from one part of our project to another. The traditional greetings are so familiar to me that I don’t even have to stop and think anymore. The local people are so used to seeing me that they don’t even bother to look. I can maneuver over the rocks and around the puddles without too much trouble. I was in the process of noticing how surreal it feels that I am as comfortable in this job as I am selling Mary Kay at home when a little dog with a rotten goat head went running by. Yuck!!!
Right now I am living my workaholic dream. I start work early in the morning and finish when I fall into bed. I usually walk into the Trampled Rose and check on the school room. We have almost 70 students in a class room about 9X12 but you have never seen such eager faces. Can you imagine the world you are opening to them with literacy?
Then I usually come on into the office to review the finances and make assignments to all employees for the day. I spend lunch with our ladies or meeting with someone and then the afternoon going to the restaurant we’ve opened for the women, meeting with the other projects etc. Before I know it it’s night.
The weather is beginning to clear up and the rainy season is almost over. I do think I may get some pool time soon.
