We’ve saved two new girls this week.

The first came from a good friend of mine. She was living in a compound and discovered this young girl living as a virtual slave. Her father abandoned her at the death of her mother and the home where she was taken in perceived her as free labor. She called them Master and Mistress and was forced to work from early morning until late into the night. My girlfriend got her into another house with her and then we decided together that we already have a nanny here and two other sisters just her age. She’s as happy as can be and I’ve instructed everyone that she is only allowed to do the regular chores for a girl this age. A bit different from the problem I had of getting my own children to clean their rooms:)

Our next little girl is about eight weeks old. She also cam via two friends who were living in a guest house and couldn’t keep her. They found her being stoned to death by some young boys. Yes, she’s a cute little puppy named Buna. Here girl dogs are not wanted and the neighborhood boys just stone them. So we have a new little girl with her very own new puppy.

Our big dog, Ishi, is in heaven. She is sure that Buna was created to be her very own toy and Buna is happy because she thinks she found her mother. The staff here could not believe when I got Ishi spayed. They were surprised that I thought I had the right of God to just “cut off all her future generations”. So I guess it all worked out in the end.

We’re still working to get our nine new houses open. They are ready and painted but we are still waiting on the beds to be made. It’s a different pace here. Still it’s cold and rainy day and night, night and day so we are letting the waiting women stay in the homes anyway. It’s better than the street don’t you think?

I’m so happy because one of my friends gave me a small electric heater. I think I love it even more than my fireplace at home.
