The Moment in Time
As happens often, the electricity shut off in the office. I had lots of work but no way to do it. So I joined the ladies from the Trampled Rose outside. We have a shelter with a concrete base where the ladies gather to drink coffee, tea, work on crafts, study, or all the things we women do together.

Yesterday was a work day. I met with government officials. One of the requirements here is that we submit an annual audited report. I think it’s a good idea anyway. So we hired a CPA from England, complied with everything and took our report in. Silly us….. we forgot to have a letter of permission to comply with the requirements. How could we not guess this? So I’ve had a bit more fun. I’m still arguing my case today.

What a nice surprise! I was tired after a long week, the weather was cold and rainy, so I snuggled up in my bed with some corn chips and a very good book ready to settle down for a few hours when my phone rang. It was the Energizer Bunny party.

We’ve been busy! Nan and Debra have done amazing work. One new house is open. It’s in honor of Nan’s friend Marta and it’s called “Marta’s Place” She painted it the sweetest pink and just above the window are beautiful roses and it feels so peaceful. On top of all that work she has taught the women to knit. It shows that she is a teacher. She gave them each needles and yarn and promised them more as they worked. They have all been like little bees. How could they have learned so quickly? I guess I really didn’t pay enough attention in my home economics class.

We were on the front page of the major Sunday Newspaper in Spain. It’s so fun to see the cause and the injustice getting out.

I’ve been here one month and the time is flying. The work is hard but so rewarding when I see the faces of the ladies we are helping.

Now I am sitting in our office looking out the window watching our eight year old and thirteen year old helping with the lunch dishes. I’m not sure I’ve ever felt more proud.
