May 29, Memorial Day!

Happy Memorial Day! Things have been going much smoother here. I went for a run on Wednesday morning with some new friends from the French Embassy. The Ambassador was so kind to overlook that I was by far the WORST in the group. We had the most beautiful day! We ran next to a river. On the way up the hill the area was filled with people dressed in white Orthodox prayer clothes and the sound was beautiful in the early morning. The river was amazing. I still cannot believe that there is such a pristine area right in the middle of the city.

I’ve spent the rest of the week doing very ordinary things such as working on the financial records, loving our women, and meeting with friends. I do have some excitement. I rented a small house so that I can leave the hotel after all this time. It is darling! You pull into a fenced compound covered with flowers and trees. It feels like a very clean jungle with no animals. My house is at the back and has a sitting room, bed room, bathroom and guest area. I’m still missing a refrigerator and oven, but I did manage to cook spaghetti for Legesse and his family.

I am working again tomorrow on making sure that all our systems are strong. We’ve helped 113 women so far. What could possibly be better? Hmmmmm……. a hamburger cooked on the grill sounds nice.
