Happy Memorial Day! Things have been going much smoother here. I went for a run on Wednesday morning with some new friends from the French Embassy. The Ambassador was so kind to overlook that I was by far the WORST in the group. We had the most beautiful day! We ran next to a river. On the way up the hill the area was filled with people dressed in white Orthodox prayer clothes and the sound was beautiful in the early morning. The river was amazing. I still cannot believe that there is such a pristine area right in the middle of the city.

I had lunch with my good friends yesterday after church. They are professors and friends from the University here. I quickly found out that we have not opened a school but “an informal learning situation” Much more legal here.

I often have people ask me how I can give up my own life to be in Ethiopia so much, as if it’s a sacrifice. My day today reminded me how really lucky I am. We are on our way back to Ethiopia. We heard there were nine bombings in Addis. Some killed and many hurt. I hate to think what this will do to the economy. We will fly through the night. First to Bangkok and then on to Ethiopia. It’s been a great time here but I am ready to hug our women.

Martie and I are in the Philippines. It is HOT here. I think it may really be a big sauna. We are working to bring one of her friends back to the USA. Everyone here seems so rich. We are staying right next to a beautiful spa and a very large mall, with a Starbucks!!!!! Guess I’ll be enjoying this week. we go back to Ethiopia on May 14.

What a rough day! We arrived late last night and I couldn’t resist the chance to go to the Trampled Rose to give everyone a big hug. They were mostly sleeping, but I woke them up and we had a great celebration. They weren’t expecting me until next month so they were very excited. Martie and I went on out to eat pizza and she slept well while I stayed awake the whole night.
